Fjell
Fjell is a municipality in the county of
Hordaland,
Norway.Fjell was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see
formannskapsdistrikt).The municipality consists of several islands west of
Bergen, the major ones being Litle-Sotra,
Sotra (the northern part) Bjorøy and Turøy. Due to the construction of the mainland bridge (Sotrabroen) in
1971 and its proximity to Bergen, the population has grown from less than 7,000 to almost 20,000, and it is presently the Norwegian municipality with the highest growth rate. The result is major traffic jams over the bridge every day. A highway that leads to the town centre of Bergen has reduced the traveling time to only fifteen minutes from the community centre at Straume on Litle-Sotra.

finn.) ist ein skandinavischer Landschaftstyp. Es handelt sich um die Vegetationsstufe oberhalb der Waldgrenze. Die Fjell-Landschaft ist
glazial überprägt und meist wellig oder hügelig. In den Senken bilden sich oft Seen. Die Vegetation besteht am Waldrand aus Fjällbirken, darüber aus Zwergstrauchheiden und am Rand der Felsregion aus Gräsern, Moosen und Flechten. Demnach kann Fjell auch mit Berg
tundra übersetzt werden.

Hordaland westlich von
Bergen. Die Kommune besteht aus mehreren Inseln, darunter Bildøy, Bjorøy und Litle-Sotra samt dem nördlichen Teil von Sotra. Der Südteil von Sotra gehört zur Gemeinde
Sund. Nachbarkommune im Norden ist
Øygarden. Jenseits des Hjeltefjords im Nordosten liegt die Insel Askøy, die ebenfalls eine eigene Kommune bildet. Verwaltungssitz von Fjell ist Straume auf der Insel Litle-Sotra.
