Finland-Swedish

Finland Swedish is a general term for the closely related cluster of dialects of Swedish spoken in Finland by Swedish-speaking Finns as their mother tongue. For the most part, these dialects and the dialects spoken in Sweden are mutually intelligible, although some dialects from Ostrobothnia are practically unintelligible to Swedish-speaking people in southern Finland (and in Sweden). However, most Swedish-speaking Finns emphasize that Finland Swedish is not a language separate from the Swedish of Sweden. The Swedish dialects in Finland are considered varieties of Swedish, and the norm for written Standard Swedish is completely applicable also for Finland Swedish.

Finnlandschwedisch (schwedisch: finlandssvenska; finnisch: suomenruotsi) ist eine Bezeichnung für das in Finnland gesprochene Schwedische. Schwedisch ist neben Finnisch die zweite Amtssprache in Finnland. Als Muttersprache gesprochen wird Schwedisch von 265.000 Menschen auf dem finnischen Festland, den sogenannten Finnlandschweden, sowie 25.000 Einwohnern der autonomen Provinz Åland (insgesamt 5,5 % der Bevölkerung). Die finnlandschwedische Hochsprache unterscheidet sich vor allem in der Aussprache und Teilen des Wortschatzes vom in Schweden gesprochenen Reichsschwedischen, in der Schriftsprache aber nur geringfügig. Das alltäglich gesprochene Finnlandschwedische zerfällt in mehrere, teils stark voneinander abweichende Dialekte. Der åländische Dialekt steht den in Schweden gesprochenen Mundarten in vielen Hinsichten näher als denen des finnischen Festlandes.

Finlandssvenska är en sammanfattande benämning på de olika svenska dialekter som finlandssvenskarna i Finland talar. Svenska är modersmål för 265 000 invånare i Nyland, Egentliga Finland och Österbotten (5,1 % av befolkningen i landet) och 25 000 ålänningar (94 % av befolkningen). Svenska är ett av Finlands två officiella språk, och enda officiellt språk på Åland. Åländskan står närmare uppländskan än finlandssvenskan på fastlandet och delar bara vissa av de östsvenska dialektdragen.
