Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. Fiddler on the Roof was originally entitled Tevye. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem which he wrote in Yiddish and published in 1894. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while the world and civilization around him change rapidly. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each daughter's choice of husband moves progressively further and further away from established custom—and with the edict of the Tsar that abolishes his village.

Un violon sur le toit (A Fiddler on the Roof) est une célèbre comédie musicale créée à Broadway en 1964 par Joseph Stein, qui l'a adaptée d'une nouvelle de Cholem Aleichem, avec des musiques de Jerry Bock et des paroles de Sheldon Harnick. Elle a tenu 3243 représentations et a reçu neuf Tony Awards en 1965. Par la suite, elle a été reprise de nombreuses fois dans le monde entier, puis adaptée au cinéma en 1971.

Anatevka (engl. Originaltitel Fiddler on the Roof, dt.: Der Fiedler auf dem Dach) ist ein Musical nach dem Roman "Tewje, der Milchmann" von Scholem Alejchem. Die Autoren des Musicals sind Joseph Stein (Buch), Jerry Bock (Musik) und Sheldon Harnick (Liedtexte). Die Uraufführung fand am 22. September 1964 im Imperial Theatre am Broadway statt. Die Regie und die Choreografie übernahm Jerome Robbins; Harold Prince produzierte das Musical. Zero Mostel spielte die Hauptfigur Tevje, Maria Karnilova spielte seine Frau Golde, Beatrice Arthur als Jente die Heiratsvermittlerin und Bert Convy als Perchik den studentischen Revolutionär. In seiner fast achtjährigen Laufzeit erreichte die Produktion als erstes Broadway-Musical mehr als 3000 Vorstellungen. Die Eröffnung im Londoner West End im Her Majesty’s Theatre war am 16. Februar 1967 mit Chaim Topol in der Hauptrolle. Mit 2030 Vorstellungen wurde das Musical auch dort ein großer Erfolg. Die deutschsprachige Erstaufführung fand am 2. Februar 1968 im Operettenhaus in Hamburg statt, in einer Übersetzung von Rolf Merz und Gerhard Hagen. Der bekannteste deutsche Tevje ist Shmuel Rodensky. Ivan Rebroff spielte die Rolle in der französischen Version Un violon sur le toit in Paris, die 1972 im Théâtre Marigny Premiere hatte.

Skrzypek na dachu (ang. Fiddler on the Roof) - znany musical z muzyką Jerry`ego Bocka, słowami Shaeldona Harnicka i libretto Josepha Steina. Historia jest luźno oparta na książce „Dzieje Tewji Mleczarza” autorstwa rosyjskiego pisarza żydowskiego Szołema Alejchema. Premiera odbyła się 22 września 1964 na Broadwayu.

Fiddler on the Roof is een musical die voor het eerst werd uitgevoerd op Broadway op 22 september 1964. Het verhaal is gebaseerd op het boek Tevye and his Daughters (1894) van de Russisch-joodse schrijver Sholom Aleichem. In 1971 werd de musical verfilmd door Norman Jewison met in de hoofdrol Chaim Topol.
