The word faeces is the plural of the Latin word fæx meaning "dregs". There is no singular form in the English language, making it a plurale tantum.

Kał (inaczej stolec, ekskrementy, odchody, potocznie kupa, wulg. gówno) – odpadowe produkty procesu trawienia. Kał powstaje w jelicie grubym. Resztki pokarmowe przemieszczane z jelita cienkiego do jelita grubego mają konsystencję stosunkowo płynną; dopiero w jelicie grubym dochodzi do końcowej fazy resorpcji wody i zagęszczenia kału. W skład kału wchodzą resztki pokarmowe, śluz, bakterie, resztki nabłonka, woda itp. Kał przesuwa się w jelicie wskutek ruchów perystaltycznych; ostateczne jego formowanie zachodzi w odbytnicy. Wydalany jest w czasie defekacji przez odbyt dzięki skurczom ścian odbytnicy.

Con il termine feci si indica il materiale di rifiuto solido emesso dagli esseri viventi del Regno Animale.Sono dette anche escrementi e sono prodotte dall'apparato digerente. Sono composte in buona parte da residui alimentari non digeribili, come cellulosa e cheratina ma anche da residui di acidi gastrici, bile (che agisce principalmente sul colore), muco, cellule morte e, in parte considerevole, da batteri e acqua.
