The fantasia (from ; also , , ) is a musical composition with its roots in the art of improvisation. Because of this, it seldom approximates the textbook rules of any strict musical form (as with the impromptu).

En musique classique, la fantaisie est une composition de forme composite, par opposition aux formes musicales strictes telles que la sonate. Présente du à nos jours, elle permet au compositeur de déroger au cadre de composition habituel qui lui impose soit une progression harmonique stricte (comme la forme sonate), soit un enchaînement thématique pré-établi (forme ABA, forme sonate bi-thématique avec exposition, développement et réexposition, etc.). La fantaisie fait se succéder les thèmes plutôt qu'elle ne les organise.

Kallas på svenska även fantasia. Under barocken var fantasi inom musiken ofta titeln på ett fritt stycke (liksom preludium respektive toccata), som mycket väl kunde inkludera en eller två fugor. Senare har det använts för längre ensatsiga framför allt pianostycken i såväl friare improvisatoriska former som komprimerad sonatform.

3. Fantazja chorałowa - forma opracowania chorału z XVIII w., pokrewna przygrywce chorałowej (J.S. Bach).
