fanatique
az fanum = prasteš-gâh
+
Latin fanaticus "inspired by divinities" from fanum "temple" via French "fanatique." The Latin root fan- devolved from a suffixed form of PIE *dhes- which also underlies feria "holiday" from which English "fair" was derived (via French "feire"). English "feast" and "festive" derive from the Latin word for "festive," festus, as does French "fête." All go back to *dhes-, whence also Greek theos (thes-os) "god."

+
I should be inclined to say that a man is a fanatic if he thinks some one matter so overwhelmingly important that it outweighs anything else at all.
(Bertrand Russell speaks his mind, p. 141)
+
(Friedrich Nietzsche)
+
Some kind of philosophy is a necessity to all but the most thoughtless, and in the absence of knowledge it is almost sure to be a silly philosophy. The result of this is that the human race becomes divided into rival groups of fanatics, each group firmly persuaded that its own brand of nonsense is sacred truth, while the other side's is damnable heresy.
(B. RUSSELL, Philosophy for Laymen )
+
