Fagernes

is the largest town in the valley of Valdres, Norway, with a population of 1,762. Fagernes is the administrative centre of the municipality of Nord-Aurdal.On 14 June 2007 the municipality council of Nord-Aurdal decided to bestow city status upon Fagernes. The decision will formally come into force on 8 September 2007, when Fagernes celebrates its 150th anniversary.Fagernes lies approximately 3 hours north west of Oslo, and is an important destination for tourism in Norway, due to good communications and the nature in the surrounding Valdres valley, and mountain areas such as Jotunheimen. The local airport is Fagernes Airport, Leirin.

Die Kommune Nord-Aurdal in Norwegen hat eine Fläche von 907 km² mit einer Nord-Süd-Ausdehnung von 52,4 km und einer Ost-West-Ausdehnung von 43,3 km. Nord-Aurdal hat 6.400 Einwohner. Die Bevölkerungsdichte beträgt 7 Einwohner pro Quadratkilometer. Die Kommune liegt im Westen der  Fylke Oppland und wird von dem Ort Fagernes verwaltet. Die größeren Siedlungen der Kommune sind Aurdal, Fagernes und Leira. Früher war Aurdal der Verwaltungsort der Kommune.
