FORMING TRUMPET

(I) A short, flared, metal tube at the front of a CARDING MACHINE. The film of cotton FIBERS from the machine is passed through the tube which forms them into a SLIVER. (II) A similar device at the front of a WARPING MACHINE. It is used for gathering a number of strands of YARN into a loose, untwisted rope when BALL WARPING.
