FM broadcasting
FM broadcasting is a broadcasting technology pioneered by Edwin Howard Armstrong which uses frequency modulation (FM) to provide high-fidelity sound over broadcast radio. The term "FM band" describes the "frequency band in which FM is used for broadcasting". This term is slightly misleading, since it equates a modulation method with a range of frequencies.

FM via VHF bånd II
I det meste af verden er FM-bånd, VHF bånd II eller FM-radio, elektromagnetiske bølger i frekvensbåndet 87,5 MHz til 108 MHz. Tidligere dækkede det europæiske FM-bånd kun 87,5 MHz til 104 MHz som det kan ses på ældre radiomodtagere.

Det kaldes FM-båndet fordi hensigten er, at man kun sender radiofoni via FM (Frekvensmodulation). Radiofoni via FM har den fordel at have mindre støj og forvrængning. Ulempen ved FM er, at modulationsformen kræver en større båndbredde til en radiokanal, men det er der plads til i FM-båndet.
