FLAT PLATE

Flow over a flat plate (Fluid Mechanics) Whenever a fluid flows over a flat plate, it encounters resistance from the surface of the plate, much like a solid sliding over another would. A boundary layer develops in the region just bordering the plate and this layer is the region of velocity gradients. Outside the boundary layer, free stream conditions prevail, i.e, the presence of the plate does not affect the region outside the boundary layer. The size of the boundary layer is directly proportional to the fluid's viscosity.
