Force XXI Battlefield Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) was first tested and implemented under the
Force XXI concept that stemmed from
Operation Desert Storm/Shield. Which was the desire for commanders to track friendly force on the battlefield would increase a Commander's Situational Awareness of the battlefield by gathering information graphically instead of collecting reports from their commanders verbally. FBCB2 was tested under the First Digitized Division 4th Infantry Division based in
Fort Hood,
Texas. They conducted Limited User Test on the equipment. The FBCB2 use three main communication platforms: 1)
CPU consisting of touch screen monitor, Removable Hard Drive, Rubber membrane Keyboard 2) Communicated with the Internet Controller (INC) that "routes" data to to lower bandwidth
Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System(SINCGARS) or
Enhanced Position Location System (EPLRS). 3)
