Juan Manuel Fangio (June 24, 1911 - July 17, 1995), nicknamed "El Maestro" (spanish for "The Master"), was a race car driver from Argentina, who dominated the first decade of Formula One racing. He won five World Championship titles — a record which stood for 46 years — with four different teams (Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati), a feat that has not been repeated since. For these achievements, and because of the time they were accomplished, he is regarded by many as the "greatest driver of all time".

Juan Manuel Fangio (né le 24 juin 1911 à Balcarce, une ville d’Argentine située à environ 400 km de la capitale — mort le 17 juillet 1995 à Buenos Aires), était un pilote automobile argentin. Cinq fois Champion du monde de Formule 1 (en 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 et 1957) il a dominé la discipline reine du sport automobile dans les années cinquante, étant jusqu'à ce jour le seul pilote à être sacré champion du monde dans 4 écuries différentes. Grâce à ses exploits et à son unique pourcentage de victoires sur Grands Prix disputés (24 victoires sur 51 GP, record absolu), nombreux sont ceux qui le considèrent comme le plus grand pilote de l'histoire.

Fangio gilt bis heute als einer der erfolgreichsten Rennfahrer der Welt. Bei 51 Grand-Prix-Starts gewann er 24 Mal, was als Erfolgsquote unerreicht ist. Seine fünf Formel-1-WM-Titel stellten lange Zeit einen Rekord dar, der erst 2003 von Michael Schumacher überboten wurde.
