The Führer Headquarters (Führerhauptquartiere in
German), abbreviated FHQ, is a common name for a number of constructed headquarters used, or intended to be used, by the
Nazi leader
Adolf Hitler and various German commanders and officials throughout Europe during
World War II. Perhaps the most famous of the headquarters is the
Führerbunker in
Berlin,
Germany, where Hitler
committed suicide on April 30, 1945. Other famous headquarters are the
Wolfsschanze (Wolf's Lair) in
East Prussia, where
Claus von Stauffenberg in liege with other conspirators failed in an
attempt to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1944, and the facilities
Berghof and
"Eagle's Nest", both at
Berchtesgaden, where Hitler frequently met with prominent foreign and domestic officials.
