Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique

The Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) or International Federation of Gymnastics (IFG) is the governing body of competitive gymnastics. It was founded on July 23, 1881 in Liège, Belgium, making it the oldest international sport federation. Originally called the European Federation of Gymnastics, it had three member countries —  Belgium, France and the Netherlands — until 1921, when non-European countries were admitted, and it was renamed to its current name.

La Fédération internationale de gymnastique (FIG ou IFG) a été créée le 23 juillet 1881 à Liège en Belgique par Nicolas Jan Cuperus. Après avoir ouvert un secrétariat permanent à Lyss en 1973, la FIG s'installe à Moutier en Suisse en 1991. Depuis 2008, le siège de la FIG se trouve à Lausanne en Suisse. En 2007, la FIG occupe 20 collaborateurs.

De Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) is het overkoepelende orgaan binnen de gymnastieksport. De organisatie werd opgericht op 23 juli 1881 in Luik, België. Dat maakt het de oudste internationale sportorganisatie. Tot 1921 was de naam van de organisatie European Federation of Gymnastics, de leden waren toen Nederland, België en Frankrijk. Sinds dat jaar werden ook niet-Europese landen toegelaten en werd de naam herzien tot de huidige.
