European Car of the Year

The European Car of the Year award was established in 1964 by a collective of automobile magazines from different countries in Europe. The current organisers of the award are Auto (Italy), Autocar (UK), Autopista (Spain), Autovisie (Netherlands), L'Automobile Magazine (France), Stern (Germany) and Vi Bilägare (Sweden).

Auto des Jahres, offiziell "Car of the Year", ist eine von europäischen Zeitschriften erschaffene Auszeichnung, mit der seit 1963 jährlich ein neu erscheinendes, innovatives Fahrzeugmodell ausgezeichnet wird. Seit 1975 wird der Titel immer für das darauffolgende Jahr vergeben.Die Wahl wird von Motorjournalisten getroffen, die von den teilnehmenden Zeitschriften weltweit ausgewählt werden. Hierbei hat jeder Stimmberechtigte 25 Punkte zur Verfügung, von denen er maximal neun für ein einzelnes Fahrzeug vergeben kann.

Samochód Roku (ang.: Car of the Year – w skrócie COTY) – nazwa konkursu na najlepszy samochód, wybierany spośród samochodów debiutujących na rynku w bieżącym roku kalendarzowym na rok następny. Najważniejsze konkursy tego typu urządzane są w Europie (European Car of the Year) i Ameryce Północnej (North American Car of the Year). Ale można jeszcze wyróżnić:"Światowy konkurs na Samochód Roku" (ang. World Car of the Year)."Kanadyjski konkurs na Samochód Roku" (ang. Canadian Car of the Year) Oprócz powyższych, są też konkursy o mniejszym znaczeniu, organizowane przez czasopisma motoryzacyjne, takie jak: Motor Trend czy Wheels.

Auto dell'anno (Car of the year) è uno speciale riconoscimento europeo che premia il modello di autovettura che, nei dodici mesi precedenti all'assegnazione, abbia espresso i migliori contributi di design e innovazione tecnologica, in rapporto al prezzo di vendita.Il premio nasce nel 1964, dietro iniziativa di alcune riviste settoriali come AutoVisie, Quattroruote,  Stern  e Vi Bilägare che hanno curato a turno l'organizzazione, invitando i più autorevoli giornalisti delle riviste europee. Di anno in anno la manifestazione si è sempre più sviluppata tanto che, per fare un esempio, l' edizione del 2005 si è svolta con la partecipazione di 58 giurati provenienti da ben 22 nazioni diverse. Gli organizzatori attuali sono le riviste: Auto (Italia), Autocar (UK), Autopista (Spagna), Autovisie (Paesi Bassi), L'Automobile Magazine (Francia), Stern (Germania) e Vi Bilägare (Svezia).
