It is separated from the mainland of Greece by the Euboic Sea. In general outline it is a long and narrow, seahorse-shaped island; it is about 150 km (90 miles) long, and varies in breadth from 50 km (30 miles) to 6 km (4 mi). Its general direction is from N.W. to S.E., and it is traversed throughout its length by a mountain range, which forms part of the chain that bounds Thessaly on the east, and is continued south of Euboea in the lofty islands of Andros, Tenos, and Mykonos.

L’Eubée (en grec ancien  Eúboia, en grec moderne  Évvia) est la plus grande des îles de la mer Égée, située en face de l’Attique et de la Béotie, dont elle est séparée par le détroit de l’Euripe. Elle est longue de 180 km pour km², et compte habitants (2005). Avec l’île de Skyros, elle forme le nome d’Eubée.

Euböa ( Eúboia), heutige Aussprache Évia ( Evia ), ist mit einer Fläche von 3.660 km² und einer Bevölkerung von ca. 220.000 Einwohnern (Stand: 2005) nach Kreta die zweitgrößte griechische Insel. Die Hauptstadt ist Chalkida, früher auch Chalkis genannt. Daneben gibt es noch eine Reihe weiterer Kleinstädte: Karystos, Kymi, Psachna, Aliveri, Aidipsos und Limni. Die Insel ist über zwei Brücken mit dem Festland verbunden; eine davon überbrückt die mit nur 40 Metern schmalste Meerenge der Welt. Euböas Einwohner wurden in der Antike Abantes genannt. Wie die meisten griechischen Inseln war Euböa früher unter anderen Namen bekannt, beispielsweise als Macris and Doliche, die sich auf die Form der Insel beziehen, oder als Ellopia und Abanten (Άβαντες) nach den sie bewohnenden Stämmen.

Eubea (gr. Εύβοια - Ewwia), przybrzeżna wyspa grecka w zachodniej części Morza Egejskiego. Druga co do wielkości wyspa Grecji po Krecie. Od kontynentalnej Grecji jest oddzielona wąskimi cieśninami Płn. i Płd. Eubejską oraz znajdującą się pomiędzy nimi Ewripos, która w najwęższym miejscu ma szerokość 40 m i jest połączona mostem. Poza tym, na północy oddzielona jest od kontynentu cieśniną Trikeri. Na południu wyspy cieśnina Płd. Eubejska rozszerza się, tworząc Zatokę Petalijską. Od wyspy Andros Eubea oddzielona jest Cieśniną Kafirejską. Wyspa jest górzysta, najwyższe pasma mają do 1743 m n.p.m. Gospodarka opiera się na uprawie winorośli, oliwek, zbóż oraz hodowli owiec i kóz.

Eubèa o Evia (in greco  ), chiamata dai veneziani Negroponte, è un'isola (3658 km², 218.032 ab.) della Grecia, situata nel Mare Egeo, adiacente a parte della costa sud-orientale della penisola, con capoluogo Calcide, dove l'isola dista dalla terraferma solo 40 metri.In prevalenza montuosa, la regione presenta piccole pianure fertili adibite alla coltivazione di olivi, viti, cereali, frutta. Sono presenti cave di marmo cipollino, miniere di lignite e magnesite.Famosa un tempo per i suoi numerosi buoi (da cui origina il nome), oggi il suo allevamento si concentra quasi esclusivamente sugli ovini.
