Like his club colleague Ismael Urzaiz, Etxeberria announced his arrival on the international scene with some fine displays in the Euro 2000 qualifying campaign. He was hailed as a teenage sensation when signed, aged 17, from Real Sociedad for a record fee in 1995 after just seven first-division appearances. Makes up for the little he lacks in flair with enthusiasm, opportunism, shooting ability and strength in the air.
