Ether
Ethers are a class of organic compounds that contain an ether group — an oxygen atom connected to two alkyl or aryl groups — of general formula R–O–R'. A typical example is the solvent and anesthetic diethyl ether, commonly referred to simply as "ether" (CH3-CH2-O-CH2-CH3). Ethers are common in organic chemistry and pervasive in biochemistry, as they are common linkages in carbohydrates and lignin.

Ether
Als Ether, nicht fachsprachlich, aber in alter Schreibweise Äther, werden organische Verbindungen mit einer Sauerstoffbrücke als funktioneller Gruppe zwischen zwei Alkyl-, Alkenyl- oder Aryl-Resten bezeichnet. Der in der Umgangssprache bekannte „Ether“ bezeichnet Diethylether (C2H5–O–C2H5), einen der einfachsten Ether. Sind beide Reste an der Sauerstoffbrücke aliphatisch, so werden diese Ether per IUPAC auch als Alkoxyalkane bezeichnet.

Éther-oxyde
Les éther-oxydes, appelés aussi plus simplement éthers, sont des substances chimiques, de la forme R-O-R', où R et R' sont des chaînes carbonées. Ils sont souvent utilisés en chimie organique pour protéger des fonctions alcool lors de réactions de synthèse. Ils ont d'ailleurs avec ces derniers de nombreuses propriétés communes. (dues à la liaison C-O, et aux doublets libres de l'oxygène => voir géométrie).

Eteri
Gli eteri sono composti organici aventi formula bruta CnH(2n + 2)O, in cui l'atomo di ossigeno ha legati a sé due gruppi alchilici o arilici.
A temperatura e pressione ambiente, tendono ad essere più volatili degli alcoli loro isomeri, questo perché, a differenza di questi ultimi, non possono formare legami a idrogeno tra loro.
La possibilità di formare legami a idrogeno con l'acqua conferisce agli eteri più leggeri una buona miscibilità in essa.
