Estremadura

Estremadura (pron. IPA []) is a historical province of Portugal. It is located along the Atlantic Ocean coast in the center of the country and includes Lisbon, the capital.Estremadura should not be confused with Extremadura, an autonomous community of Spain.The name of both regions comes from the fact that they were at the "extreme" border of Christendom during a phase of the Reconquest. The meaning is therefore similar to the marches.

L'Estremadura est une ancienne province (província ou região natural) portugaise, instituée par une réforme administrative en 1936. Cependant, cette province n'a en pratique eu aucune autorité particulière, et disparut du vocabulaire administratif avec l'entrée en vigueur de la Constitution de 1976.

Estremadura - kraina historyczna w Portugalii, położona wzdłuż środkowego wybrzeża Oceanu Atlantyckiego. 7,9 tys. km² powierzchni. Obejmuje stolicę Lizbonę.Leży na terenach płaskiej niziny nadbrzeżnej i pasem wzgórz. Najwyższe wzniesienie to Montejunto (666 m n.p.m.).
