EROS (Abkürzung für "The Extremely Reliable Operating System") war ein Forschungsprojekt für ein Betriebssystem mit besonderer Ausfallsicherheit und einer sehr feinkörnigen Rechtevergabe an Benutzer und Programme. Dies wird nicht über Zugriffskontrolllisten und "klassische" UNIX-ähnliche Rechte in einem Dateisystem realisiert, sondern EROS greift auf eine alternative Idee über Betriebssystem-Design aus der Multics-Zeit zurück, sogenannte Capabilities.

Grał na lutni podobnie jak Apollo.Istnieją różne wersje co do jego pochodzenia: miał być on pierwszym z bogów, rówieśnikiem Gai, którego obecność musiała być konieczna do zrodzenia się pozostałych bogów, lub też synem Afrodyty i Aresa oraz Hermesa. (Homoseksualizm obu bogów nie przeszkadzał w stworzeniu nowego boga). Przedstawiany był jako uskrzydlony piękny młodzieniec z łukiem i strzałą, którą godzi w zakochanych, by ich ze sobą złączyć. W czasach późniejszych przedstawiany jako pulchne niemowlę z łukiem i strzałami. Jego odpowiednikiem w mitologii rzymskiej jest Amor lub Kupidyn.
