As a three of threes, the number nine became associated with great carnal  power, and ancient peoples considered groupings of nine deities very important.The ancient Egyptians set up multiple Enneads. Pyramid Texts mention the Great Ennead, the Lesser Ennead, the Dual Ennead, plural Enneads, and even the Seven Enneads. Some pharaohs set up Enneads that incorporated themselves; most notably, Seti I in his temple at Redesiyah worshipped the Ennead that combined six important deities with three deified forms of him.

Enneada ( enneas, dopełniacz enneados, od ennea "dziewięć"; eg. pesedżet), Dziewiątka bogów – określenie stosowane najczęściej w  mitologii egipskiej, oznaczające panteon bogów. Liczba dziewięć ma symbolizować potrojoną trójkę, co według numerologów miało magiczne znaczenie. Dziewiątka bogów była uznawana za ważniejszą od innych bóstw mitologii egipskiej.

Con Enneade variante (p s d t) si intende un gruppo di nove dei che stanno alla base della cosmogonia egizia. Nella religione egizia si distingue una Grande Enneade, composta da Atum e da quattro coppie di dei: Shu e Tefnut, Geb e Nut, Osiride e Iside e Seth e Nefti; ed una Piccola Enneade, nella quale, oltre ai precedenti, o talvolta in sostituzione, sono presenti Anubi, Horo, Thot e Maat. Il centro di culto originario dell'Enneade fu a Eliopoli (dal greco: città del sole), uno dei maggiori luoghi di culto di tutto l'Egitto.
