Engineering drawing

An engineering drawing is a type of drawing that is technical in nature, used to fully and clearly define requirements for engineered items, and is usually created in accordance with standardized conventions for layout, nomenclature, interpretation, appearance (such as typefaces and line styles), size, etc. Its purpose is to accurately and unambiguously capture all the geometric features of a product or a component. The end goal of an engineering drawing is to convey all the required information that will allow a manufacturer to produce that component.

Technisch tekenen is het ambacht van het maken van tekeningen volgens de geldende normen en voorschriften. Dit in tegenstelling tot het vrij tekenen, wat een kunst is. Het doel van technisch tekenen is het bouwen van het daarmee gemaakte ontwerp. Het ontwerpen gebeurt in de regel door technici als technisch tekenaars, ontwerpers, constructeurs, architecten en vele andere beroepsgroepen.

Зато от чертежа требуется точное воспроизведение размеров предмета, в определённом масштабе, вследствие чего перспективное изображение употребляется весьма редко (так как оно искажает размеры частей) и заменяется проекциями, по правилам начертательной геометрии. С развитием применений графической статики при помощи черчения стали легко и быстро решать множество численных задач, встречающихся при проектировании сооружений и машин и требующих сложных алгебраических выкладок.
