Emblema

The Painted Firetail, Emblema pictum, is a common species of estrildid finch found in Australia. It is also known as the Painted Finch or the Painted Firetail Finch. It is the only species in the genus Emblema.It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 1,000,000 km². It is found in semi-desert area, grassland and subtropical (lowland) dry grassland. The status of the species is evaluated as Least Concern.

Emblema viene dal greco  (émblema), composto delle parole (en) e (ballo), che significa "ciò che è messo dentro".Per i Romani significava mosaico o figura ornata in rilievo, mentre nell'accezione usata nei nostri giorni si tratta di un simbolo, spesso composto da un'immagine e da un motto, ma non necessariamente da entrambi.Uno stemma gentilizio può essere un emblema, così come il marchio di fabbrica di un'impresa commerciale o il simbolo di uno stato (ad esempio l'emblema della Repubblica Italiana)

Een emblema, embleem of zinnebeeld is een kleine afbeelding met daarbij een korte kernachtige spreuk, zoals een spreekwoord en een kort gedicht. Het woord emblema (meervoud: emblemata) is Grieks en betekent mozaïekversiering. Emblemata werden meestal gebundeld in emblemataboeken, welke populair waren van de zestiende tot en met de achttiende eeuw. De afbeelding is een vaak letterlijke verbeelding van de spreuk. Er zijn veel verschillende soorten spreuken die een afbeelding vergezelden, onderwijzend, politiek, religieus of over de liefde.
