Ellesmere Island

Ellesmere Island (French: Île d'Ellesmere) is part of the Qikiqtaaluk Region of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. Lying within the Canadian Arctic Archipelago it is considered part of the Queen Elizabeth Islands, with Cape Columbia being the most northerly point of land in Canada. It comprises an area of 196,235 km² (75,767 sq mi), making it the world's tenth largest island and Canada's third largest island. The Arctic Cordillera covers much of Ellesmere Island, making it the most mountainous in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

L'île d'Ellesmere est une grande île de l'océan Arctique, la plus au nord de Archipel arctique canadien, la troisième du Canada et la dixième au monde quant à la superficie. Pour cette raison, elle est parfois appelée Terre d'Ellesmere. Elle s'étend jusqu'à la latitude de 83° au cap Columbia, à 769 km du pôle Nord.

Die Ellesmere-Insel (engl. Ellesmere Island) ist mit einer Größe von 212.690 km² (nach anderen Quellen 183.000 bzw. 196.000 km²) die neuntgrößte (nach anderen Ermittlungen die zehnt- oder elftgrößte) Insel der Erde. Sie gehört zu den Königin-Elisabeth-Inseln Kanadas im Kanadisch-Arktischen Archipel und ist Teil des kanadischen Territoriums Nunavut. Von Nordgrönland im Osten ist sie durch den zum Teil nur 30 km breiten Kennedy-Kanal getrennt. Im Westen liegt die Axel-Heiberg-Insel.

Ziemia Ellesmere'a lub Wyspa Ellesmere'a (fr. Île d'Ellesmere) - należąca do Kanady wyspa w Archipelagu Arktycznym na Oceanie Arktycznym. Administracyjnie należy do kanadyjskiego terytorium Nunavut.Jej powierzchnia wynosi ok. 196,2 tys. km² co czyni ją trzecią co do wielkości wyspą Kanady i największą wyspą archipelagu Wyspy Królowej Elżbiety. Jest najbardziej wysuniętą na północ kanadyjską wyspą, najbliższą Arktyce. Położona niedaleko Grenlandii, oddzielona jest od niej cieśninami: Smith Sound, Strait Nares i Robeson Channel. Krajobraz górzysty, znaczny obszar wyspy zajmują pokrywy lodowe. Na pozostałych terenach występuje roślinność typu tundrowego. Linia brzegowa dobrze rozwinięta, z licznymi, głęboko wciętymi fiordami.
