Born in Piraeus and bred at Olympiakos, he came to the team from the club's youth academies. He is considered one of the top European goalkeepers despite his young age. He returned to Olympiakos after a short period at Proodeutiki where he played on loan from Olympiakos. Was named UEFA Champions League Best Goalkeeper of the 1998 competition, in which Olympiakos had a good show.
