Elatha

In Irish mythology, Elatha (or Elathan) was a prince of the Fomorians and the father of Bres by Ériu of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Unlike most of the Fomorians he was handsome and fair of skin, and the imagery surrounding him (he visits Ériu at night by sea on a silver boat) suggests he may once have been a moon god.

Dans la mythologie celtique irlandaise, Elatha mac Delbaeth est un roi des Fomoires. Elatha signifie « art » dans le sens de « savoir, science ». De son union avec Eriu, une Tuatha Dé Danann va naître Bres. Ce dernier sera roi des Tuatha Dé Danann pendant peu de temps et se réfugiera chez son père, après son abdication.

Elatha (andere Schreibweisen sind Elada und Eladu) ist eine Figur der irischen Sage. Vielleicht ist er auf eine alte keltische Gottheit zurückzuführen.Im Lebor Gabala Eirenn ist Elatha ein Sohn des Delbaeth und ein König der Formoren. In der Vorgeschichte zur zweiten Schlacht von Mag Tuireadh wird erzählt, wie er Eriu als die Verkörperung des Landes Irland besuchte und mit ihr den Knaben Bress zeugte, der von den Tuatha de Danaan zum König gewählt wurde. Im Lebor Gabala Eirenn gilt Elatha außerdem noch als Vater Ogmas und des Dagda.
