Ego, (v. griech. bzw. lat. Ich), bezeichnet den Selbst-Sinn (Selbstbewusstsein und Selbstaktivität) und ist unter der Bezeichnung Ich Gegenstand der Psychologie, der Philosophie, der Soziologie, der Religion und weiterer Wissenschaften. Die Bezeichnung Ego wird in den Wissenschaften eher selten verwendet, so z.B. bei der Analyse dyadischer Beziehungen zwischen Ego und Alter in der Soziologie. In der Philosophie ist die Verwendung der Bezeichnung Ego statt Ich häufiger. Ego und Ich sind exakte Synonyme. Es gibt keine Versuche, begrifflich zwischen Ego und Ich zu unterscheiden.
