Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is an ancient fortress which, from its position atop Castle Rock, dominates the sky-line of the city of Edinburgh, and is Scotland's second most visited tourist attraction, after the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow. Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC. As it stands today though, few of the castle's structures pre-date the 16th century, with the notable exception of St Margaret's Chapel, the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, which dates from the early 12th century.

Le château d’Édimbourg est une ancienne forteresse sur un rocher d’origine volcanique dans le centre de la ville d’Édimbourg. Il a été utilisé dans un but militaire depuis les temps préhistoriques et n’a été transféré à un usage civil que récemment. Il se trouve au sommet de la rue haute High Street, aussi appelée le Mile royal Royal Mile. Le Palais de Holyrood, Holyrood Palace s’étend au bas. Le château est ouvert aux visiteurs, et il est géré par l'organisme spécialisé Historic Scotland. C’est l’attraction touristique la plus visitée en Écosse.

Das Schloss Edinburgh Castle in Edinburgh gilt als eine der bedeutendsten Sehenswürdigkeiten Schottlands. Die erste Burg an dieser Stelle entstammte dem 7. Jahrhundert. Das älteste erhaltene Gebäude, die Kapelle St Margaret's Chapel, entstammt dem Ende des 11. Jahrhunderts. Weitere Baumaßnahmen folgten im 15., 16. und 19. Jahrhundert.

Zamek w Edynburgu jest jedną z najpotężniejszych i najstarszych fortec w Wielkiej Brytanii. Jest to symbol nie tylko samego Edynburga ale i całej Szkocji. Forteca znajduje się na szczycie monumentalnego skalistego wzniesienia (120 metrów n.p.m.) w samym centrum miasta. Historia pierwszych śladów fortyfikacji na górze zamkowej sięga IX wieku p.n.e. Większa część obecnych murów budowli pochodzi z XVI wieku, z godnym uwagi wyjątkiem w postaci Kaplicy Św. Małgorzaty z wczesnego XII wieku. Kaplica ta jest dziś najstarszym budynkiem w Edynburgu.Edynburski Zamek jest jedną z niewielu obecnych twierdz, które posiadają swój własny garnizon wojskowy. Obecnie jest on jednak używany głównie podczas ceremonii oraz oficjalnych parad szkockiego wojska.

Edinburgh Castle is een kasteel, gelegen op Castle Rock, een oude vulkanische plug, in de Schotse hoofdstad Edinburgh. De meeste gebouwen van het huidige kasteel zijn 17e eeuws. De Schotse kroonjuwelen en de Stone of Destiny of Stone of Scone, waarop de koningen van Schotland werden gekroond, zijn hier te bezichtigen.
