Ecuador ( ), officially the Republic of Ecuador ( , which literally translates to the "Republic of the Equator") is a representative democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and by the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is one of only two countries in South America, (along with Chile), that do not have a border with Brazil. The country also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about west of the mainland.

Ecuador (eingedeutscht auch Ekuador; span. República del Ecuador), ist eine Republik im Nordwesten Südamerikas zwischen Kolumbien und Peru und hat 14 Millionen Einwohner. Die im Andenhochland (Sierra) auf 2850 m gelegene Hauptstadt heißt Quito; die größte Stadt Guayaquil liegt in der Pazifikküsten-Ebene (genannt Costa). Das Land ist nach der Äquatorlinie benannt, die durch das Staatsgebiet verläuft, wobei sich der Großteil desselben in der südlichen Hemisphäre befindet. Die Galápagos-Inseln befinden sich etwa 1000 km westlich der Küste im Pazifik.

La République de l’Équateur est un pays du nord-ouest de Amérique sud , entouré par le Pérou au sud et la Colombie au nord. Il occupe une surface de 283 560 km², soit environ la moitié de la surface de la France et 9 fois la surface de la Belgique. Le nom du pays vient de sa position sur l’Équateur.

Ekwador (Republika Ekwadoru; hiszp. Ecuador, República del Ecuador) – państwo w Ameryce Południowej położone nad Oceanem Spokojnym, jedno z czterech powstałych w wyniku rozpadu Wielkiej Kolumbii w 1830 r. Sąsiaduje od północy z Kolumbią a od południa z Peru. W skład Ekwadoru wchodzą także położone na Oceanie Spokojnym Wyspy Galapagos. Nazwa pochodzi od hiszpańskiego słowa oznaczającego równik.
