Ecotone
An ecotone is a transition area between two adjacent ecological communities (
ecosystems). It may appear on the ground as a gradual blending of the two communities across a broad area, or it may manifest itself as a sharp boundary line. Changes in the physical environment may produce a sharp boundary, as in the example of a shoreline or the interface between areas of forest and cleared land. Elsewhere, a more gradually blended interface area will be found, where species from each community will be found together as well as unique local species. Mountain ranges often create such ecotones, due to the wide variety of climatic conditions experienced on their slopes. They may also provide a boundary between species due to the obstructive nature of their terrain;

France is a good example, marking the boundary between the flora and fauna of northern and southern France. Most
wetlands are ecotones.

Écotone
Un écotone est une zone de transition écologique entre deux
écosystèmes. Par exemple, le passage de la savane à la forêt, ou le passage d'une plaine alluviale à une zone non inondable. Comme dans le cas des biomes, la végétation joue un rôle important dans la caractérisation d'un écotone, du fait de la marque physionomique prépondérante qu'elle imprime au paysage.

Ecotone
Un ecotone è un ambiente di transizione tra due
ecosistemi, e più in generale tra due ambienti omogenei.Gli ecotoni contengono
specie proprie delle comunità confinanti e specie esclusive dell'area ecotonale stessa, e quindi possiedono un'elevata
biodiversità e ricchezza. Queste sue peculiarità rendono l'ecotone indispensabile poiché proprio attraverso queste strutture avviene il collegamento fra ambienti molto diversi tra loro (boschi-prati, laghi-foreste, acque dolci-acque salate).
