Ecma International

Ecma International is an international, private (membership-based) standards organization for information and communication systems. It acquired its name in 1994, when the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA) changed its name to reflect the organization's international reach. As a consequence, the name is no longer considered an acronym and no longer uses full capitalization.

Ecma International ist eine private Normungsorganisation zur Standardisierung von Informations- und Kommunikationssystemen und Unterhaltungselektronik mit Sitz in Genf. Die Organisation wurde 1961 mit dem Namen ECMA – European Computer Manufacturers Association gegründet. Der Name wurde 1994 geändert, um der internationalen Ausrichtung der Organisation Rechnung zu tragen. Infolgedessen hat der Namensteil Ecma seine Bedeutung (Acronym für European Computer Manufacturers Association) verloren.
