Ebola

Ebola is both the common term used to describe a group of viruses belonging to genus Ebolavirus, family Filoviridae, and the common name for the disease which they cause, Ebola hemorrhagic fever. The viruses are characterised by a long, filamentous morphology surrounded by a lipid viral envelope. Ebolaviruses are morphologically similar to the Marburg virus, also in the family Filoviridae, and share similar disease symptoms. Ebola has caused a number of serious and highly publicized outbreaks since its discovery, as well as featuring as the gruesome antagonist in many forms of entertainment.

Le nom de virus Ébola provient du nom d'une rivière passant près de la ville de Yambuku, en République Démocratique du Congo. C'est à l'hôpital de cette localité que fut identifié pour la première fois le filovirus, lors d'une épidémie qui débuta le . La fièvre Ébola est une fièvre hémorragique foudroyante qui s'attaque à l'homme et aux primates. Son apparition chez l'homme semble récente (premier cas recensé en 1976) bien que l'on retrouve chez certaines populations africaines des traces d'anticorps.

Ebola ist eine anzeigepflichtige Infektionskrankheit, die durch das Ebolavirus hervorgerufen wird. Die Bezeichnung geht auf den Fluss Ebola zurück, an dem das Virus zuerst aufgetreten ist. Die Erkrankung verläuft in bis zu 90% aller Fälle tödlich. Bis jetzt wurden noch keine erfolgreichen Therapien gefunden.

Ebola è un virus estremamente aggressivo per l'uomo.Il primo ceppo del virus Ebola fu scoperto nel 1976 isolandolo sulle rive del fiume Ebola, da cui prende il nome, in Congo, ex Zaire. Finora sono stati isolati quattro ceppi del virus, di cui tre letali per l'uomo. Ebola è un virus di forma allungata (Fa parte della famiglia dei virus RNA filonegativi, noti anche come filovirus) che causa, dopo un periodo di incubazione che varia dai 2 ai 21 giorni, una febbre emorragica. La malattia è mortale nella maggior parte delle persone infettate, e in alcune epidemie la mortalità supera il 70%; a tutt'oggi non esiste una cura.
