Eastern Hemisphere
The Eastern Hemisphere is a geographical term for the half of the Earth that is east of the Prime Meridian (which crosses Greenwich, England, United Kingdom) and west of 180° longitude. It is also used to refer to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australasia, the Western Hemisphere, which includes the Americas. In addition, it may be used in a cultural or geopolitical sense as a synonym for 'Old World'.

Westliche und östliche Hemisphäre
Der Nullmeridian und der Längengrad 180, der ungefähr der Datumsgrenze entspricht, teilen die Erde in zwei Halbkugeln (Hemisphären), die westliche und östliche Hemisphäre. Im Gegensatz zur Nord- und Südhalbkugel ist die Aufteilung nicht durch die Erdgeometrie vorgegeben, sondern durch den Nullmeridian festgelegt.

Hémisphère Est
L'hémisphère est est la moitié de la Terre qui est à l'est du méridien de Greenwich. Les longitudes y sont inscrites par des nombres positifs, ou bien par la mention Est (Exemple : 65° E ou 65°). Elle s'oppose à la notion d'hémisphère ouest.

Oostelijk halfrond
Het oostelijk halfrond is de helft van de wereld die ten oosten van de nulmeridiaan van Greenwich en ten westen van de 180-gradenmeridiaan ligt. Tussen deze twee graden wordt de horizontale positie op de wereldbol aangeduid in oosterlengte.
De verdeling in halfronden beoogt het nauwkeurig kunnen aangeven van de positie op de aardbol. Vermoedelijk koos men ervoor om in Greenwich de nullijn te laten lopen, omdat de doorsnede dan grotendeels over water zou lopen. (Men hield geen rekening met westelijk Afrika).
De andere helft van de wereldbol wordt het westelijk halfrond genoemd.
