ECOWAS

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of fifteen West African countries, founded on May 28, 1975 with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos. Its mission is to promote economic integration. In 1976 Cape Verde joined ECOWAS, and in 2002 Mauritania withdrew.It was founded to achieve "collective self-sufficiency" for the member states by means of economic and monetary union creating a single large trading bloc. The very slow progress towards this aim meant that the treaty was revised in Cotonou on July 24, 1993 towards a looser collaboration. The ECOWAS Secretariat and the Fund for Cooperation, Compensation and Development are its two main institutions to implement policies. The ECOWAS Fund was transformed into the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development in 2001.

La Communauté économique des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (CEDEAO) est une organisation internationale régionale. Son but principal est de promouvoir la coopération et l'intégration avec pour objectif de créer une union économique et monétaire entre les pays de l’Afrique de l'Ouest. Die Westafrikanische Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft (fran.: La Communauté Economique Des Etats De l'Afrique De l'Ouest, kurz CEDEAO, engl.: Economic Community of West African States, kurz ECOWAS) ist eine regionale Wirtschaftsvereinigung von derzeit 15 Staaten. Die Westafrikanische Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft wurde am 28. Mai 1975 mit der Unterzeichnung des Vertrages von Lagos gegründet. Der am 24. Juli 1993 in Cotonou, Benin, geschlossene Revised Treaty ersetzt den Vertrag von Lagos formell und stellt die ECOWAS auf eine neue rechtliche Grundlage. Ziel des Zusammenschlusses ist der Ausbau der wirtschaftlichen Integration dieser Länder. Dazu kamen im Verlaufe der Zeit weitere Ziele, u.a. eine graduelle politische Integration, die Ausdruck fand in der Einrichtung eines gemeinsamen westafrikanischen Gerichtshofes sowie eines gemeinsamen westafrikanischen Parlaments im Jahre 2001. Darüber hinaus ist mit der Intervention der ECOMOG in Liberia während des Bürgerkrieges Anfang der 90er Jahre eine wichtige sicherheitspolitische Rolle hinzugekommen, die den sich verändernden Rahmenbedingungen nach Ende des Kalten Krieges Rechnung tragen soll.

Wspólnota Gospodarcza Krajów Afryki Zachodniej (ang. Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS) - regionalna organizacja zrzeszająca 15 państw Afryki Zachodniej powstała na mocy traktatu z Lagos podpisanego 18 maja 1975. Głównym celem ECOWAS jest promowanie integracji ekonomicznej. Siedzibą organizacji jest Abudża, stolica Nigerii.

La Economic Community of West African States/Communauté économique des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (Comunità economica degli Stati dell'Africa Occidentale, ECOWAS/CEDEAO) è un accordo economico stipulato da 16 stati dell'Africa occidentale nel 1975, e tuttora in vigore. Cinque paesi membri dell'ECOWAS hanno progettato di adottare una moneta comune a partire dal 2009; la moneta dovrebbe chiamarsi ECO. L'unione monetaria verrà detta West African Monetary Zone.
