The Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings (ECO) is a classification system for the opening moves in a game of chess. It is presented as a five volume book collection (now also a computer database) describing chess openings. The moves were taken from hundreds of thousands of games between masters, from published analysis in the Chess Informant since 1966, and then compiled by notable chess players. The main editor is Aleksandar Matanovic. Both the ECO and the Chess Informant are published by the Serbian company Šahovski Informator (Chess Informant). These openings are typically provided in an ECO table that concisely presents the best opening lines.

L'Encyclopédie des ouvertures d'échecs (Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, ECO) est une publication en cinq volumes de la maison d'édition serbe l'Informateur d'échecs qui reprend les principales ouvertures connues dans le jeu. Elle utilise un code de classification des ouvertures, appelé code ECO, qui a été repris par d'autres publications et fait aujourd'hui figure de standard.

Inom schack är ECO (Encyclopedia of Chess Openings) ett klassificeringssystem for schacköppningar. Det kom till i början på 70-talet och används nu officiellt i alla sammanhang. Tidigare använde man sig enbart av beskrivningar i ord, såsom "Averbach-varianten i damgambit". Detta ledde oundvikligen till en del förvirring, särskilt som olika öppningsvarianter har olika namn på olika språk. (Jämför exempelvis spansk öppning, som på engelska heter "Ruy Lopez".)

Encyklopedia otwarć szachowych to pięciotomowa encyklopedia (obecnie dostępna również jako baza danych w postaci cyfrowej) szczegółowo opisująca otwarcia szachowe, wydawana przez redakcję serbskiego wydawnictwa Šahovski informator (znanego pod angielską nazwą Chess Informant). Opisywane warianty są zebrane z setek tysięcy partii mistrzów szachowych, publikowanych w Informatorze, zanalizowanych i usystematyzowanych przez uznanych szachistów - współpracowników Informatora. Šahovski informator został założony w 1966 roku przez arcymistrza Aleksandra Matanovicia.
