Dungeons & Dragons (abbreviated as D&D or DnD) is a tabletop fantasy role-playing game (RPG) originally designed by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, and first published in 1974 by the Gygax-owned company Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. (TSR). The game is currently published by Wizards of the Coast, a division of Hasbro. It was derived from miniature wargames, with a variation of the Chainmail game serving as the initial rule system. D&D's publication is widely regarded as the beginning of modern role-playing games and, by extension, the entire role-playing game industry.

Donjons et dragons, de l'anglais Dungeons & Dragons, souvent abrégé en D&D ou en Donj', est un jeu de rôle médiéval-fantastique créé par E. Gary Gygax et Dave Arneson dans les années 1970. C'est en fait le premier jeu de rôle publié et commercialisé. Gygax fonda par ailleurs la société d'édition TSR (Tactical studies rules) pour publier le jeu. TSR fut donc le premier éditeur de jeu de rôle.

Dungeons & Dragons (englisch für Verliese und Drachen, kurz D&D oder DnD) von Gary Gygax und Dave Arneson gilt als erstes Fantasy-Rollenspiel. 1974 wurde D&D in den Vereinigten Staaten erstmals von der dazu gegründeten Firma Tactical Studies Rules erfolgreich vertrieben. Im November 1983 brachte die Fantasy Spiele Verlags-GmbH die erste deutsche Übersetzung auf den Markt. Das Spiel wird nunmehr von der Firma Wizards of the Coast hergestellt und vertrieben. Die deutsche Version, die nicht sämtliche Produkte des Originals umfasst, wird von Feder und Schwert produziert.

Dungeons and Dragons to gra uznawana za pierwszą grę fabularną. Wyewoluowała ona ze strategicznej gry wojennej Chainmail, bazujacej na planszach podzielonych na sześciokątne pola (powszechnie nazywane hexami). Obecna edycja opiera się na prostej mechanice d20 i pozwala na grę w różnorodnych światach fantasy. Pierwotnie stworzona przez wydawnictwo TSR (Tactical Study Research - zajmowało się wówczas głównie grami wojennymi), jednak po pewnych problemach finansowych, w latach 90 AD&D 2nd Edition stało się własnością Wizards of the Coast.
