Drive shaft
A drive shaft, driveshaft, driving shaft, propeller shaft, or Cardan shaft is a mechanical component for transmitting torque and rotation, usually used to connect other components of a drive train that cannot be connected directly because of distance or the need to allow for relative movement between them.

Kardanaxel
Kardanaxel kallas en drivaxel för kraftöverföring som är ledad med kardanknutar. Kardanaxlar förekommer till exempel i bilar som har bakhjulsdrift och motorn placerad fram, men också i diverse redskap som hänges baktill på en traktor.

Wal (maszynoznawstwo)
Wał - część maszyny, najczęściej w kształcie walca, obracająca się wokół własnej osi wraz z zamocowanymi na niej elementami, służąca do przenoszenia momentu obrotowego. Na wale mogą być osadzone: koła zębate, piasty, tarcze hamulcowe itp.
Jeśli wał obciążany jest momentem skręcającym i momentem gnącym, działąjącymi w płaszczyznach prostopadłych względem siebie, wymagają zsumowania przy pomocy hipotez wytężeniowych. Największe zastosowanie ma tu hipoteza Hubera-Misesa-Hencky'ego. Wypadkowe obciążenie podzielone przez wytrzymałość jednostkową, na całej długości wału, pozwala wyznaczyć jego minimalny zarys. Zarys rzeczywisty projektuje się tak, by opisywał on zarys minimalny oraz spełniał wymogi montażowe i funkcjonalne.
