Dresden

Dresden (etymologically from Old Sorbian Drežďany, meaning people of the riverside forest) is the capital city of the German Federal Free State of Saxony. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe. The Dresden conurbation is part of the Saxon Triangle metropolitan area.Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendor. The controversial bombing of Dresden in World War II, plus 40 years in the Soviet bloc state of East Germany, changed the face of the city dramatically.

Dresden (sorbisch: ; abgeleitet aus dem altsorbischen für Sumpf- oder Auwaldbewohner) ist die Landeshauptstadt des Freistaates Sachsen. Sie liegt nordwestlich des Elbsandsteingebirges und an der Nordabdachung des Osterzgebirges sowie am Übergang vom Ober- zum Mittellauf der Elbe in der Dresdner Elbtalweitung, der letzten durchbruch- und grabenartigen Tallandschaft des Flusses.

Drezno (niem. Dresden, grnłuż. Drježdźany, czes. Drážďany) – miasto we wschodnich Niemczech (Pogórze Zachodniosudeckie), położone nad Łabą. Drezno jest stolicą Saksonii i Rejencji Drezdeńskiej. Aglomeracja drezdeńska liczy sobie 1,036 mln mieszkańców (2004).W 1987 miasto miało 519,8 tys. mieszkańców. Spadek ludności wynika między innymi ze znacznej migracji do krajów związkowych na zachodzie kraju.Drezno stanowi duży węzeł komunikacyjny (lotnisko międzynarodowe), z ośrodkami przemysłu maszynowego, produkcji klisz fotograficznych, przemysłu chemicznego i farmaceutycznego.

Dresda (in tedesco Dresden, in sorabo Drježdzany) è una città della Germania di 506.337 abitanti.E' la capitale, e il secondo centro maggiore (dopo Lipsia), del Land della Sassonia. Sorge sul fiume Elba, la cui valle (un tratto di 20 chilometri che attraversa la città) è stata dichiarata Patrimonio dell'umanità dall'UNESCO. La città è nota per aver subito uno dei più terribili bombardamenti della storia dell'umanità, avvenuto il 14 febbraio 1945. Il bilancio delle vittime è incerto, quelle identificabili sono state 35.000 (cifra che è dunque il minimo incontestabile), le stime oscillano tra i 65.000 ed i 135.000 morti (quanti e forse di più dei civili morti a Hiroshima o a Nagasaki). L'intero centro della città (15 km²) è andato bruciato ed altri quartieri danneggiati. Il bombardamento è stato ed è pesantemente contestato ed è ritenuto un crimine di guerra perché Dresda, famosa come città d'arte, era priva di installazioni militari e non era un obiettivo il cui interesse strategico giustificasse una tale azione.
