It is bordered by Overijssel to the south, Friesland to the west, Groningen to the north, and Germany (districts of Emsland and Bentheim) to the east.

Drenthe (deutsch Drente) ist eine niederländische Provinz, gelegen im Nordosten des Landes. Die Hauptstadt ist Assen. Andere wichtige Orte sind Emmen und Hoogeveen. Sie grenzt im Süden an die Provinz Overijssel, im Westen an Friesland, im Norden an Groningen und im Osten an Deutschland. Die Provinz ist ländlich geprägt und wird im Osten von Moorgebieten beherrscht.
