Doom metal

Doom metal is a form of heavy metal that emerged as a recognized metal sub-genre in the early/mid-1980s. Doom metal is heavier and slower than other metal genres. Lyrics play a very important role in this genre, and are traditionally rife with pessimism, evoking an atmosphere of darkness, despair and misery. Musically, doom metal is strongly influenced by the early work of Black Sabbath. A number of early Black Sabbath tracks, such as "Black Sabbath" are often considered embryonic or prototypical doom metal songs. Many of the tracks on their third album Master of Reality (released in 1971) seem to have more in common with what today is seen as doom metal, with tracks such as "Sweet Leaf", and "Into The Void" that featured Tony Iommi's guitar and Geezer Butler's bass tuned down to C# for heavier riffing and reduced string tension for Iommi's previously injured fingers. However Black Sabbath was not the only influence- many doom metal bands started up only a few years after Black Sabbath's debut, some of whom hailed from countries that had not yet seen the rise of Black Sabbath's popularity.

Le doom metal est un sous-genre du heavy metal qui émergea au milieu des années 1980. Originalement caractérisé principalement par des tempos lents, tout du moins par rapport aux autres sous-genres du metal, le doom metal s'est diversifié lors des années 1990 et 2000 et comprend à présent plusieurs sous-genres distincts aux caractéristiques plus précises.

Doom Metal (doom englisch für Untergang, Unheil) ist eine extreme, gleichwohl sehr düstere und langsame Spielart des Metal und zeichnet sich durch schwere, langsame Gitarrenriffs aus. Die Texte handeln meistens von Melancholie, Trauer, Endzeitstimmung, Sehnsucht, Verzweiflung und Tod. Doom-Metal-Stücke entfalten nach Auffassung der Fans ihre Wirkung nicht im bloßen Zuhören nebenbei, sondern man muss der Musik Zeit widmen, um sie genießen zu können.

Doom metal to gatunek muzyki metalowej. Charakteryzuje się ciężkim i powolnym, zazwyczaj psychodelicznym stylem wokalnym oraz ciężkim, walcowatym brzmieniem; dominują średnie i wolne tempa. Teksty utworów poruszają tematy depresyjne, melancholijne, czasem określane jako dekadenckie.Nazwa pochodzi od albumu "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" zespołu Candlemass, jednak korzeni doom metalu możemy doszukiwać się w twórczości Black Sabbath, który to jest bezpośrednią inspiracją dla Candlemass. Według niektórych środowisk, epic doom metal przeżywa obecnie drugą młodość. Na rynku muzycznym pojawiło się kilka zespołów uprawiających właśnie ten gatunek muzyki, m.in. Place Of Skulls, Solitude Aeturnus, Thunderstorm, Rising Dust, All Soul's Day, Mirror Of Deception, Krux, Witchcraft, Clair de Lune Morte. Istnieje wiele podgatunków doom metalu: traditional doom, epic doom, death doom, funeral doom, post-funeral doom, black doom, gothic doom, drone doom, stoner doom oraz sludge doom.

Il doom metal è il genere musicale che, nella storia dell'Heavy Metal, ha avuto più legami con l'occulto ed il "nero". Nonostante i Black Sabbath siano considerati i precursori e i maestri del genere (si veda la loro canzone Hand of Doom su Paranoid del 1970), le radici del doom metal risalgono anche all'epopea di gruppi "pre hard rock" come i Black Widow e i Coven che con l'album Witchcraft ne gettarono le prime basi, insieme con quelle dallo stoner rock.
