Dogue de Bordeaux
Dogue de Bordeaux is a breed of dog that is strong, powerful, and imposing, as it was originally bred for dog fighting and guarding. The Dogue has an even temperament and is extremely loyal and devoted to his master and family. However, it is wary of strangers and can display marked dominance towards other dogs if not well socialized. The Dogue must be socialized from an early age and owners must be conscious of the great strength and tenacity of this very large and athletic breed. The Dogue de Bordeaux is the French Mastiff.

Overview
The Dogue de Bordeaux boasts a very deep, intimidating bark. It guards its property with vigilance and great courage but usually without aggression. This breed becomes very attached to its owner and is affectionate with children but can be aggressive with unfamiliar dogs.
Early socialization and obedience classes will help to control any tendencies toward dominance or aggression and can make it possible for this breed to live with other animals, including cats. Some are heavy droolers.
Appearance
The fine-haired, short coat is soft to the touch. Coat color is solid mahogany (reddish brown) or various shades of golden fawn--the more common color in the United States.
The Dogue de Bordeaux has a massive head lined with symmetrical wrinkles and a broad, powerful jaw.
Grooming & Exercise Needs
The Dogue de Bordeaux's short coat needs only occasional brushing. As with most large, heavy breeds, exercise needs are moderate.
Origins
The Dogue de Bordeaux, or Bordeaux mastiff, originated in France and was trained in ancient times to attack bulls, bears, and other dogs. Today it is a companion and guard dog. Although intimidating in appearance, this dog has a calm temperament.
