DOGMA, short for Developing Ontology-Grounded Methods and Applications, is the name of research project in progress at Vrije Universiteit Brussel's STARLab, Semantics Technology and Applications Research Laboratory. It is an internally funded project, concerned with the more general aspects of extracting, storing, representing and browsing information.

Dogma is the established belief or doctrine held by a religion, or a particular group or organization. It is authoritative and not to be disputed, doubted, or diverged from, by the practitioners or believers. Although it generally refers to religious beliefs that are accepted without reason or evidence, they can refer to acceptable opinions of philosophers or philosophical schools, public decrees, or issued decisions of political authorities. The term derives from Greek "that which seems to one, opinion or belief" and that from (dokeo), "to think, to suppose, to imagine". Dogma came to signify laws or ordinances adjudged and imposed upon others by the First Century. The plural is either dogmas or dogmata, from Greek . Today, It is sometimes used as a synonym for systematic theology.

Unter einem Dogma (altgr. δόγμα, dógma, „Meinung, Denkart, Lehrsatz“) versteht man eine fest stehende Definition oder eine grundlegende (Lehr-)Meinung, deren Wahrheitsanspruch als unumstößlich gilt. Insbesondere in der christlichen Theologie wird der Begriff Dogma wertneutral für einen Lehrsatz gebraucht, der unter Berufung auf göttliche Offenbarung, die Autorität der kirchlichen Gemeinschaft bzw. des kirchlichen Lehramts oder auf besondere Erkenntnisse als wahr und relevant gilt. Die systematische Entfaltung und Interpretation der Dogmen wird Dogmatik genannt. Hingegen wird der Begriff Dogma pejorativ gebraucht von Personen, die die entsprechenden Lehrsätze als nicht hinreichend fundiert ansehen, zum Beispiel weil sie die Lehrautorität der Kirche nicht anerkennen oder Weltanschauungen und Wertvorstellungen prinzipiell skeptisch gegenüberstehen, die sich selbst als allein wahr, allgemeingültig, verbindlich oder gar als für alle Zeit gültig ansehen.

Le Dogme95 est un mouvement cinématographique lancé par des réalisateurs danois sous l'impulsion de Lars von Trier et de Thomas Vinterberg, en réaction aux superproductions anglo-saxonnes et à l'utilisation abusive d'artifices et d'effets spéciaux aboutissant à des produits formatés, lénifiants et impersonnels. Le but du dogme était d'en revenir à une sobriété formelle plus expressive, plus originale et jugée plus apte à exprimer les enjeux artistiques contemporains. Dépouillés de toute ambition esthétique et en prise avec un réel direct, les films qui en découlaient cristallisaient un style vif, nerveux, brutal et réaliste, manifesté généralement par un tournage entrepris avec une caméra huit millimètres et improvisation de plusieurs scènes.

Na gruncie bardziej ogólnym, jest to po prostu każde twierdzenie (świadomie lub nieświadomie), sens którego jest praktykowany. Wedle tej definicji, dogmatem może być na przykład kultura bądź społeczeństwo, w których bierze się udział choćby ze względu na brak jakiejkolwiek alternatywy.
