The poem's imaginative vision of the Christian afterlife is a culmination of the medieval world-view as it had developed in the Western Church. It helped establish the Tuscan dialect in which it is written as the Italian standard.

La Divine Comédie (Divina Commedia //, à l’origine Comedia //), rédigée entre 1308 et 1321, est la plus célèbre œuvre de Dante Alighieri. Elle est également considérée comme le premier grand texte en italien, et il est vrai que la langue dans laquelle elle est écrite a eu une influence considérable sur la langue italienne. Ce poème décrit la descente de Dante aux Enfers, puis le passage par le Purgatoire et enfin son accession au Paradis, pour terminer par son union à Dieu.

Die Göttliche Komödie (italienisch: La Divina Commedia oder mit dem ursprünglichen Titel Com(m)edia) ist das Hauptwerk des italienischen Dichters Dante Alighieri. Die Commedia gilt als bedeutendste epische Dichtung der italienischen Literatur und als eines der herausragenden Werke der Weltliteratur. Es ist zudem das erste große Werk in italienischer Sprache, die als Literatursprache von Dante erst aus seinem toskanischen Idiom entwickelt werden musste. Dante begann mit der Niederschrift im Jahre 1307 und beendete das Werk erst kurz vor seinem Tod im Jahre 1321. Der Zusatz göttlich (italienisch divina) wurde erst im 17. Jahrhundert von Bewunderern hinzugefügt.

La Divina Commedia (originariamente Comoedìa; l'aggettivo Divina fu aggiunto successivamente da Boccaccio) è un poema di Dante Alighieri, scritto in terzine incatenate di versi endecasillabi e, tra i primi esempi del genere, in lingua volgare toscana. Considerato il capolavoro del poeta fiorentino, è una delle più importanti testimonianze letterarie della civiltà medievale e una delle più grandi opere della letteratura universale, conosciuta e studiata in tutto il mondo.
