Dictator

Dictator
For the ancient Roman title, see Roman dictator.
A dictator is a ruler (e.g. absolutist or autocratic) who assumes sole and absolute power (sometimes, but not always, with military control or bribes) but not officially sanctioned by heritage, as in an absolute monarch. When other states call the head of state of a particular state a dictator, that state is called a dictatorship. The word originated as the title of a magistrate in ancient Rome appointed by the Senate to rule the republic in times of emergency (see Roman dictator and justitium).

Diktator
Diktator är en form av envåldshärskare, en person som utövar full och oinskränkt auktoritet över en stat och dess invånare. I normalt språkbruk avses dock med begreppet diktator endast den statsledare som inte tillåter opposition eller som behåller makten i första hand genom våld eller hot om våld. Etymologiskt sett är en diktator en person som dikterar sina beslut, utan att efterfråga de underlydandes samförstånd.

Dittatore
Dittatore viene definito colui che esercita una dittatura governando egemonicamente. Spesso questa figura è assimilata a quella del tiranno o del despota. Per giungere al potere un dittatore, o futuro tale, può servirsi della semplice propaganda, oppure di moti di piazza o persecuzioni, fino a giungere ad una rivoluzione attraverso un colpo di stato (golpe o putsch nel linguaggio internazionale) che può essere cruento o incruento.

Dittatore romano
Il Dittatore (lat.: dictator) era una figura caratteristica dell'assetto della costituzione della Repubblica Romana.

Si ritiene comunemente che la dittatura fosse una magistratura straordinaria. Ma tale convincimento si fonda sulla distinzione fra magistrature ordinarie e magistrature straordinarie che è estranea alle fonti, e che riposa esclusivamente sull'autorità di Theodor Mommsen.

Si dovrebbe anzi dubitare che la dittatura possa qualificarsi tout-court come una magistratura, perché difetterebbe comunque di due delle caratteristiche essenziali delle magistrature dell'età repubblicana, e cioè della collegialità e della elettività.
