Dhaka

Dhaka (previously Dacca; Ḍhākā; ) is the capital of Bangladesh and the principal city of Dhaka District. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River, Dhaka, along with its metropolitan area, has a population of 11 million, making it the largest city in Bangladesh and one of the most populous in the world.

Dhaka (bengalisch: ঢাকা, Ḍhākā; früher anglisierend Dakka, Dacca) ist die Hauptstadt Bangladeschs und mit 6.080.671 Einwohnern in der eigentlichen Stadt und 11.490.872 in der Agglomeration (Stand 1. Januar 2005) vor Chittagong und Khulna die größte Stadt des Landes. Sie ist auch die Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Division (Verwaltungseinheit). Dhaka liegt an einem Seitenarm des Flusses Dhaleswari im Herzen der größten Jute-Anbauregion der Welt. Das umliegende Gebiet ist sehr dicht bevölkert und wird von starken Monsun-Überschwemmungen heimgesucht.

Dacca (bengali: ঢাকা, altrimenti traslitt. in Dhâkâ o Dakka; 10.403.957 ab.) è la capitale e la città più popolosa del Bangladesh e il capoluogo del distretto di Dacca. Sorge sul fiume Buriganga, un canale del fiume Dhaleshwari, nel cuore della regione con la più grande coltivazione di iuta al mondo. È il centro industriale, commerciale e amministrativo della nazione, ed è un importante snodo del commercio del riso, semi oleiferi, zucchero e tè. Dacca è celebre per il suo artigianato, che include prodotti tessili e lavorati dello iuta.
