After fitting a
generalized linear model to the data, to check the adequacy of the respective model, one usually computes various
residual statistics. The
deviance residual is computed as:
Where di = D, and D is the overall deviance measure of discrepancy of a generalized linear model (see McCullagh and Nelder, 1989, for details). Thus, the
deviance statistic for an observation reflects it's contribution to the overall goodness of fit (deviance) of the model.
