Developing country

A developing country has a relatively low standard of living, an undeveloped industrial base, and a moderate to low Human Development Index (HDI) score. In developing countries, there is low per capita income, widespread poverty, and low capital formation. The term has tended to edge out earlier ones, including the Cold War-defined "Third World", which has come to have unintentional negative connotations associated with it, but new terms such as less developed country (LDC) or less economically developed country (LEDC) have not caught on yet. LEDC is a term used by modern geographers to portray the countries classified as "developing countries" more accurately, specifying that they are less economically developed, which usually correlates best with other factors such as low human development. The Correlation between an Ledc and Medc, is characteristic of a sub-economical organistic system of living.

Ein Entwicklungsland ist nach allgemeinem Verständnis ein Land, das hinsichtlich seiner wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und politischen Entwicklung einen relativ niedrigen Stand aufweist. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Sammelbegriff für Länder, die nach allgemeinem Sprachgebrauch als „arm“ gelten. Welches Land als Entwicklungsland einzustufen ist oder nicht, hängt vom Maßstab ab, an dem man die Entwicklung eines Landes misst (siehe Abschnitt Gemeinsame Merkmale der Entwicklungsländer). Der Begriff entstammt der Fach- und Alltagssprache der Entwicklungspolitik und genießt allgemein hohe Akzeptanz. Sie beruht einerseits auf relativ wertfreier Wortwahl, andererseits auf begrifflicher Unschärfe.

Sono definiti paesi in via di sviluppo (in un acronimo, PVS) tutti quei paesi compresi nella parte I della lista stilata dall'OCSE, l'Organizzazione per la cooperazione e lo sviluppo economico. Si tratta di paesi con livelli di sviluppo molto bassi, suddivisi in 5 categorie, in base al livello medio di reddito pro capite: paesi meno sviluppati (meno di un dollaro al giorno)altri paesi a basso livello di reddito (inferiore a 745$ all'anno nel 2001)paesi a basso-medio reddito (tra 746$ e 2975 all'anno)paesi ad un livello di reddito pro capite annuo medio-alto (tra 2976 e 9205$ all'anno) paesi ad alto livello di reddito (più di 9206$ all'anno nel 2001) Tutti questi paesi, viste le loro gravi situazioni di sviluppo, beneficiano di aiuti pubblici allo sviluppo da parte dei paesi industrializzati.
