The Deschutes is one of Oregon's premier rivers. It features ruggedly beautiful scenery, outstanding whitewater boating, and a renowned sport fishery for steelhead, brown trout, and native rainbow trout. The Deschutes is in three segments -- the Upper, Middle, and Lower. The Upper River features primarily flatwater boating with limited whitewater and excellent trout fishing opportunities. The Middle Deschutes has excellent hiking with spectacular geologic formations and waterfalls, and limited boating opportunities. The Lower Deschutes offers the greatest opportunities for whitewater rafting and is one of the state's premier steelhead and trout fisheries.
