Demonstration (people)

A demonstration is an historically and geographically common form of nonviolent action by groups of people. The term "demonstration" was coined in the United States during the civil rights movement of the 1950s-1970s and refers to the public display of the common opinion of a group of people. Demonstrations are a form of activism, usually taking the form of a public gathering of people in a rally or walking in a march. At times, more interventionist actions such as blockades and sit-ins have been referred to as demonstrations. Thus, the opinion is demonstrated to be significant by gathering in a crowd associated with that opinion.

Une manifestation est un acte politique collectif, qui se traduit notamment par un défilé de protestation, qui peut avoir différents buts :amélioration des conditions de vie, souvent à l'appel des syndicats, ou à l'occasion de grèves ; protestation contre une loi, un décret, une réforme ;protestation contre une fermeture d'usine ou contre des licenciements abusifs ;revendications politiques (exemples : lutte contre le racisme, le sexisme, ou lutte pour la démission d'un gouvernement) ; manifestation pour la paix et contre la guerre.

En demonstration er en offentlig fremstilling af en holdning der er delt af en gruppe. Gruppen kan være aktivister, en gruppe af borgere med fælles baggrund (f.eks. studerende, skolelærere eller registrerede revisorer) eller en gruppe borgere med en fælles holdning. Typisk beskæftiger demonstrationer sig med politiske, samfundsmæssige eller økonomiske forhold. Demonstrationer bliver især brugt til sympati- og antipatierklæringer til aktuelle hændelser (fx velfærdsprotesterne i 2006), men der findes også demonstrationer, der afholdes med bestemte intervaller (eksempelvis 1. maj-demonstrationer).
