The teenager has been hailed as the saviour of German football, and is known as ‘Das Super-Talent’. His journey from helping Germany to second place in the European U-18 Championship to his first full cap took only 19 months. He moved from 2nd Bundesliga outfit VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach to top-flight Hertha BSC Berlin last summer, and has excelled for them in the UEFA Champions League this season. His former German U-17 national coach Bernd Stöber stated that ‘he passes like Netzer and had the vision of Overath’. Deisler is likely to be a playmaker in the long term, but he is more often now employed on the right side of midfield. As well as being an excellent passer, he crosses the ball well and is also dangerous from free-kicks.
